Puerto Rico Performs a Version of One of Castellón’s Festival Anthems
The Puerto Rico Concert Band, directed by Angel “Cuco” Peña, presented the people of Castellón with their unique rendition of “Magdalena Festa Plena,” one of the most beloved songs for celebrating their festivals.
The Puerto Rican ensemble, which participated in this latest edition alongside the National Ballet Areyto, has once again won the hearts of Castellón’s residents with the joy they bring to each of their performances.
“Magdalena Festa Plena” is a pasodoble composed by Pedro Guzmán for the Rondalla Els Llauradors. Francisco Signes Castelló, former director of the Municipal Band of Castellón, arranged it for band, making these two groups popularize the theme, which has deeply resonated with the people of Castellón. In fact, it is considered, unofficially, the second anthem of the festivals after “Rotllo i Canya.” Therefore, the interpretation and arrangements introduced by the Puerto Rico Concert Band were a complete surprise.
